Help

Q: I cannot see the map?
A: The Live Yacht Race Coverage Map has been designed by RUSH Digital to be used on commonly available platforms. Sometimes specific user settings such javascript, cookie and plug-in settings prevent viewers from following the race live. Tracking a fleet of ocean racing yachts requires highly sophisticated technology and some browsers are just not up to the task. For optimum performance we recommend you use the latest versions of Firefox.

Firefox 2

Q: How do the Zoom controls work?
A: When you first load the tracker, the whole course is shown. To Zoom in, click the "+" button. "-" will leave the map centred on the same centre as your current plot, and zoom out to the next of a series of predetermined zoom levels.

Q: How do I move the map around?
A: The arrow buttons pointing North, East, South and West will slide the map in that direction allowing you to see more detail ahead of the fleet and back to the start.

Q: Why are some boats showing "Beacon Off"?
A: "Beacon off" indicates that the tracking terminal is either powered off or disconnected. "Live" indicates that regular position reports are being received from the terminal. Position updates for "Beacon off" vessels are entered manually from scheduled radio calls.

Q: How do I use the map to view results?
A: Click the "Standings" tab to see a list of all of the yachts in the race, how fast they are moving and what course they are currently tracking on. The standings tab shows the current placing overall of yachts measured by how close they are to the finish line.

Q: Can I change my settings to only see certain yachts and only show certain tracking from certain yachts?
A: The "Standings" tab also allows you to determine what yachts and tracks you can see on the map. Four columns with "Traffic Lights" indicate your current settings. The first column "On" allows you to show or hide yachts. The second column "Tk" allows you to show or hide a line following the exact path the yacht has taken. The third Column " Zm" allows you to "Zoom" straight to that Yacht. Check back on the map and the Yacht you selected Zoom for will now be in the centre. The final column, "Fol" tells RUSH Digital that you wish to follow that yacht. The map will now follow the yacht you have chosen as we receive new information from TracPlus. Every 15 minutes the map will automatically follow and centre the map on the new position.

Q: Why does a track sometimes appear to go over land?
A: A fast yacht can move quite a way in 15 minutes. In that time it can travel round a headland, while the track which connects 2 time points will join them up with the shortest path (which could be over land).
